Wines of Substance

September 29, 2008

Lots of wine posts lately but I couldn’t pass up the chance to share this piece from the Dieline. This crisp modern look is from Wines of Substance of Walla Walla. Their website is also quite a treat and completes the “elemental” look of this product. I can’t wait to get my hands on a bottle and see if what’s inside is as good as what’s outside.

Elk & Wolf Chardonnay

Elk & Wolf Chardonnay

Make it two in a row from The Dieline. These Elk & Wolf bottles are just too beautiful to ignore. Using a brushed aluminum wine bottle Social UK was able to create something truly out of the ordinary. You can imagine how these would stand out on a wall of dark glass bottles with various color labels.

Wine – Never Forget

Oxford Landing Back Label 1

Oxford Landing Back Label 2

The Dieline had a great little post this morning showing this awesome idea applied to a wine label that allowed for easy remembering without having to resort to scribbles on a napkin. As an amateur wine aficionado myself, it’s tough to always remember that one wine you got from that restaurant that was really good, ya know the one, it was dry with hints of berry and toffee and it had that name, started with a B… I think… maybe a P?

A simple innovation like the above not only looks smashing, but is also functional. If a wine maker doesn’t want to throw this on the front of a bottle, they can easily apply it too the back label (as above.) Props to Oxford Landing for the method. Form and function for the win.

Wine Bottle by Pentagram’s Justus Oehler

I am obsessed with Pentagram. They are probably my favorite brand house hands down, someday I aspire to be as great, thats the goal at least. Between the Sak’s redesign or the recent Ruby Tuesday cleanup there work never fails to impress. I saw this wine bottle design by Pentagram’s Justus Oehler on their blog and I had to share.

From the Pentagram blog:

Justus Oehler has designed a wine label for Message on the Bottle, a wine bottle and label design exhibition held as part of Design Festival Hamburg 2007, one of the highlights of Germany’s design calendar which is now in its 50th Year. In total there were 70 contributions to the exhibition from designers in 16 countries. Message on the bottle ran from the 5th to 20th of October 2007.
