Free on Craigslist Friday – 02-15-2008

Okay, I am breaking the rules now. I know we always talk about when we do Free on Craigslist that we only look at the Free Section posts with images. Normally we do. However while browsing, I found todays gem and it begged to be todays selection. So instead of having a picture I went ahead and just copied the body of the post:
adult diapers
11 large size adult diapers. Brand new..in wrapper. Only used one from the package. Please send me an email with a contact number. I will call you quickly and make arrangements for you to pick up. I want to do this quickly so plan to be available with in a few hours.
Yes folks. Diapers. Adult diapers. 1/11th of a package apparently. At first I thought it to be a joke. But when you read the post it seems somewhat legit, if not quite creepy. The desire for hasty contact not only ads to the seemingly legitimate tone but also ads to the bizarre.
If you’re a poor soul stricken with incontinence would you want to respond to this ad? I sure as hell wouldn’t. Only in Spokane I suppose.

Its that time again, time to delve into the Spokane Craigslist Free Section and see what we can find. Not much this week, furniture isn’t neat enough to post here and there wasn’t much with pictures besides furniture. However today’s choice caught my eye and my imagination:
With all this snow, you are probably thinking of Christmas, and like most citizens of the world when you think about Christmas you are most than likely thinking about your friends gather around a working organ in brightly colored holiday sweaters, steaming cups of hot buttered rum or spiced wine in their hands, mouths agape as they all sing carols and songs and spread holiday cheer. Well now, thanks to the Free section of the Spokane Craigslist, you can not only dream that dream, but you can live that dream!

Back in the saddle again! Welcome to Free on Craiglist Friday for the first of February, the weekly post where we scour the Spokane Craigslist Free section and post the best find right here on subpar! I figured with all the snow everyone would be at home posting all sorts of crazy free stuff. A lot of stuff was posted but as a rule, we only look at post with pictures, and there wasn’t a lot to be found. However… this one struck a cord:
While not hilarious, or creepy, or just odd… it’s awesome. The dude is plowing out old and poor people’s driveways. As long as your within 2 miles of the intersection of Starr and Wellesley roads. That is just awesome and goes to show how cool the people in this fine city and surrounding area are to each other. Guy with a tractor! Subpar salutes you!

Yes folks, free old medical tables. Opening up a doctors office? Reduce some of that expensive overhead, or… indulge your inner Robert Lee Yates, for FREE. What could be better? Maybe replace that love seat in your living room with something a little more… interesting? Its your call. But the inherite creepiness cannot be denied.

In case you are new to the subpar experience, we have a weekly ritual here, you see Spokane has it’s very own Craigslist and like most Craigslists it is chock full of amazing and odd things. Once a week on Friday we peruse the FREE section for the oddest giveaway we can find and pass the… er… savings onto you!
There’s very little in the science behind the selection, we do seek out free items with pictures if only to aid in your experience, and thats about it. It’s a whim thing. Okay enough chatter lets get on with this weeks winner.
Today’s choice is: Free Styrofoam
It was a tossup this week. We had some interesting things, a machine called a Mangler, a coffee table with a wobbly leg, but what got us was the Free Styrofoam, and according to the post, it’s styrofoam of “various sizes and pieces” too. It’s a great choice, because someone unpacked some item, and then took a picture of the packing materials and posted it on the Spokane Craigslist. So if you are in need of styrofoam… and you want to drive to Newman Lake, well… there you go.

Starting a new weekly tradition is always a good thing, and without pomp and circumstance I announce, FREE ON CRAIGSLIST FRIDAY! Yes Spokane has it’s very own craigslist and it’s always chock full of hilarity, be it a tranny looking for carpools, or someone trying to unload boxes of junk on an unsuspecting public. Spokane’s rich diversity always means there is a lot of interesting choices. We will celebrate the latter, reviewing the free list for the past week looking for the bizarre and unusual.
Today’s choice is “FREE WASHERS AND DRYERS – - 4 dry/3wash”
While seemingly boring, the amount of free dryers and free washers is the bewildering and intriguing, and the subsequent picture showing the units in the cold northwest winter just ads to the fun. Which work? Which do not? Why so many? What would one man need 4 dryers and 3 washers for, does he run a laundry mat? These questions and more loom, which is why “FREE WASHERS AND DRYERS – - 4 dry/3wash” is our choice for Free on Craigslist Friday!
